I wrote this piece in a language I've been writing for composing microtonal music called WereSoCool. You can play with the language in the browser on desktop at weresocool.org. There are tutorials on the site if you really want to make cool sound and impress your friends/pets/plants.
Lately, I've been writing pieces in the WereSoCool to work on with friends. I wrote this piece for two folks who have contributed to this zine - Mark Pascucci-Clifford and Robert Woods-LaDue. I just finished this piece and sent it their way. I'm looking forward to hearing what they play. The video was made with a tool chain I'm building rendering animations leveraging machine learning models. I'm sharing this piece as the unlisted youtube link that I sent to Mark and Bob. :)
Content Warning: This music is microtonal. Buyer beware! No refunds...

Sick Day

I drew these sketches of my dog Lucy (from photos on my phone) after spending the day sick on the couch with her. I'm one of those embarrasing people who "didn't really get dogs" until I had one of my own, and now few things bring me more joy than staring at her sweet and silly, sometimes melancholy, always-hungry face. It's like I'm having a core childhood experience in my mid-30s, which I suppose is something to be grateful for.

I want to know what you think about the deepest part of the ocean What does it do to you? The Not Knowing? And have you ever wished you could live inside a song, curl up on the couch and peer out the window at listeners? And how do you care for your body? Do you also see softness in doing the dishes? A kindness to future self? And what neighborhood would you live in in Roku City? The erupting volcano or perhaps the warehouse district? And does your heart shatter a little any time a waiter breaks a dish or someone’s glasses snap in half that atomic sadness of trying? And do you also feel that when we talk to each other we are taking ice cream scoops out of each other’s brains? And do you also want to tell me the weirdest thought you had today? And do you also think that each of us is whole, and we could adore each other? We’ll talk about it when I see you.
